In a performing ‘career’ lurching uncertainly to over 40 years, Benji has dabbled in most genres, with varying levels of success. From principal comic in Sheffield Crucible’s panto in 1989, to a major role in Andrew Kotting’s “This Filthy Earth” in 2000, to a self-penned one man show on the history of Scotland at the Edinburgh Festival in 2003 and 2004, to the older Captain Vere in “Billy Budd” at the Royal Opera House in 2019. Interspersed with hundreds of murder mystery and corporate events, training roleplays, historical characters in museums, ludicrous PR stunts, street entertainment, stand up comedy, kids’ parties, and even Santa in Lapland (2004).
Hailing from the Scottish Highlands, but currently living in Oxford, Benji has a slight Highland accent, and is very versatile in that department, as with roles he can play. He is often described as “quirky”, and we wouldn’t disagree. Lived on a narrowboat for 29 years; in Guinness Book of Records for navigating the entire canal and river network; first ascent of a 20,000ft peak in the Indian Himalayas; and author of romantic black comedy thriller “Santa Cull” 2016. A latterday punk Renaissance Man.
